Time to Replace the Sequester with a Balanced Approach to Deficit Reduction

Washington, DC - In this week’s address, President Obama said that because Republicans in Congress allowed a series of harmful, automatic budget cuts called the sequester to take effect, important programs like Head Start are now forced to reduce their services. After travelers were stuck for hours in airports and on planes this past week, members of Congress passed a temporary band-aid measure to stop the cuts that impact airlines - but they must do more to stop cuts to vital services for the American people.

Justice Department Returned $1.5 Billion to Victims of Crime since January 2012

Washington, DC - As the United States concludes its recognition of National Crime Victims’ Rights Week, Acting Assistant Attorney General Mythili Raman announced that the Department of Justice’s Asset Forfeiture Program has returned more than $1.5 billion in forfeited assets to more than 400,000 crime victims since January 2012.

Washington, DC - "Threats to our Constitutional rights seem to be growing bolder and more frequent.  This week the mayor of New York City called for changes that would give the government even more power to pry into our private lives; last week documents turned up showing the IRS was telling its agents to disregard the need for a warrant for personal email, text message and private social media messaging," according to Dan Weber, president of the Association of Mature American Citizens.

Man Who Coerced 9-Year-Old to Take Nude Photo with Handheld Gaming Device Lands Federal Prison Sentence

Houston, Texas - Spring resident Steve Correa-Franco, 33, has been ordered to prison for nearly 20 years following his convictions of enticement of a child and possession of child pornography, United States Attorney Kenneth Magidson announced today. Extradited Mexican man with ties to Zetas drug cartel sentenced to nearly 20 years in prison for cocaine trafficking

Corpus Christi, Texas - A Mexican man, who was extradited to the United States late last year, was sentenced Thursday to nearly 20 years in prison for cocaine trafficking, announced U.S. Attorney Kenneth Magidson, Southern District of Texas.
