Washington, DC - On June 27, the State Department’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs will host the spring semester finalists for the “Peer to Peer [P2P]: Challenging Extremism” initiative. The initiative, an innovative partnership between the U.S. government and universities around the world, empowers students to design and pilot new digital products and tools that strengthen communities and societies against violent extremist ideologies that recognize no borders.

The final presentations and judging will take place at the State Department in the George C. Marshall Center at 2:30 p.m. The following university finalists, selected by an expert panel, will present their work:

An hour prior to the event, P2P honorable mention teams will host a “marketplace of ideas” to showcase their projects as well.

On June 28, Facebook will host four additional finalists for the Facebook Global Digital Challenge at 1776 in Crystal City, VA. These finalists include the College of Europe, Bruges, Belgium; Universidad Rey Juan Carlos, Madrid, Spain; Utrecht University, Utrecht, Netherlands; and presenting via video, Laal-u-Anar Foundation, Kabul, Afghanistan.

All international finalists are in the United States as part of the International Visitor Leadership Program.
