Washington, DC - The U.S. Department of State, the U.S. Department of Commerce, and the U.S. Department of Defense continue making strong progress toward implementation of the President’s Export Control Reform Initiative (ECR). Since December 2009, the Administration’s efforts under ECR have overhauled a Cold War-era system of regulations, strengthening U.S. national security while increasing the competitiveness of U.S. industry. Key accomplishments include:

ECR enhances U.S. national security by streamlining defense transfers to U.S. allies and partners, which helps us work together more effectively to meet shared security challenges. These changes also reduce incentives for purchasers to deliberately avoid U.S.-origin parts and components.
