Hand knit Huggable Bears take on their own personality as you are putting them together.
This little guy was complaining that he looked like a gorilla until I sewed his ears on. He also complained that the bow around his neck was choking him. Then he had the nerve to say he thought his head was smaller than his body.
I told him to live with it-I do! …. lol. This bear is just too cute to put clothes on. Clothes might spoil his squeeze appeal. Now he tells me that he might have to hide in one of the felted purses I make just to stay warm and modest if I don’t put clothes on him soon. I wonder if Geppetto had this much trouble with Pinocchio. If I give him a name will he have more to say?
I once heard a story about a little boy who took his huggable bear everywhere, even to the restaurants with his folks. As the waitress asked for the drink order the little boy stated he would have milk and his bear wanted a beer. I have already told my little bear that beer won’t make him more squeezable or huggable if he wants a playmate. Beer is off the menu.
I never wanted to make a stuffed animal until I saw the pattern for this one.
The pattern is called the Huggable Bear by Gypsycream. (Find the link to the pattern below this article.) Although I mostly do hand loomed, machine knitting on the Passap and Brother knitting machines, this little huggable bear is hand knitted. Something I don’t do very often.
I found the yarn on ebay and it cost me 20 dollars for three skeins. He takes two skeins. The yarn is Sirdar Funky Chunky Eyelash. The yarn is so soft and silky but hard to see the stitches while knitting.
I knitted a little at night for about one or two weeks. Then assembly time came. Whew!! That was the most time consuming though the directions are very good. He also comes with a little free sweater pattern.
