Sacramento, California - Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr. today announced the appointment of Martin J. Tangeman as associate justice of the Second District Court of Appeal, Division Six.

Tangeman, 62, of Cambria, has served as a judge at the San Luis Obispo County Superior Court since 2001. He was a partner at Sinsheimer, Schiebelhut and Baggett from 1982 to 2001 and an associate at Ogle, Gallo and Merzon from 1978 to 1982. He earned a Juris Doctor degree from the University of California, Hastings College of the Law and a Bachelor of Arts degree from California State University, Fullerton.

Tangeman fills the vacancy created by the retirement of Justice Paul H. Coffee. This position requires confirmation by the Commission on Judicial Appointments. The commission consists of Chief Justice Tani Cantil-Sakauye, Attorney General Kamala D. Harris and Senior Presiding Justice Paul Turner. Tangeman is a Democrat.

The compensation for this position is $211,330.
