Sacramento, California - Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr. Friday announced the following appointments.

Brian Duffy, 55, of Sacramento, has been appointed warden at the California Health Care Facility, Stockton, where he has served as acting warden since 2014. Duffy served in several positions at the California Medical Facility, Vacaville from 2011 to 2014, including warden and chief deputy administrator. He was a correctional administrator at the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, Office of the Secretary from 2009 to 2011 and a correctional captain in the Division of Adult Institutions from 2008 to 2009. Duffy served in several positions at the California Medical Facility, Vacaville from 1994 to 2008, including acting facility captain, correctional captain, correctional health services administrator, lieutenant, sergeant and officer. He was a correctional officer at North Kern State Prison from 1993 to 1994 and at San Quentin State Prison in 1993. Duffy was a consultant at Duffy and Duffy from 1988 to 1992. This position does not require Senate confirmation and the compensation is $139,644. Duffy is a Republican.

Connie Conway, 64, of Tulare, has been appointed to the California Community Colleges Board of Governors. Conway has been a member of the California Women Lead Board of Directors since 2008. She served as a member of the California State Assembly from 2008 to 2014, where she was Minority Leader from 2010 to 2014. Conway was a member of the Tulare County Board of Supervisors from 2000 to 2008, serving as chair in 2005 and 2008. She was chair of the Cities Counties Schools Partnership in 2007 and president of the California State Association of Counties in 2006. This position requires Senate confirmation and the compensation is $100 per diem. Conway is a Republican.

Jennifer Perry, 55, of Los Angeles, has been appointed to the California Community Colleges Board of Governors. Perry has been executive director at the Children’s Action Network since 1990. She was director of public affairs at Act III Communications from 1988 to 1990 and served as director of special projects in the Office of Senator Alan Cranston from 1985 to 1988 and as staff assistant in the Office of Congressman Mickey Leland from 1982 to 1983. This position requires Senate confirmation and the compensation is $100 per diem. Perry is a Democrat.

Nora Vargas, 43, of Chula Vista, has been appointed to the California State Teachers’ Retirement System Board of Directors. Vargas has been vice president of community and government relations at Planned Parenthood of the Pacific Southwest since 2009. She was executive director at the Latino Issues Forum from 2007 to 2009, consultant at Nora Vargas Consulting from 2005 to 2007, founding director at the Los Angeles Mayor’s Office of Immigrant Affairs from 2004 to 2005 and vice president of governmental and political affairs at Planned Parenthood of Orange and San Bernardino Counties from 2001 to 2004. She served as legislative relations specialist at San Diego State University from 2000 to 2001, was a consultant at Kaufman Campaign Consultants from 1998 to 1999 and a confidential assistant at the U.S. Selective Service System from 1997 to 1998. Vargas is vice president of the Southwestern Community College District Governing Board and chair of the Hispanas Organized for Political Equality Board of Directors. This position requires Senate confirmation and the compensation is $100 per diem. Vargas is a Democrat.
