State Department Expands Employment Horizons for Persons with Disabilities

Washington, DC - On Monday, October 15, the State Department will host a job fair for persons with disabilities interested in pursuing work in foreign affairs and international development held in celebration of National Disability Employment Awareness Month, the event is co-sponsored by the Department’s Office of Civil Rights, Disability Reasonable Accommodations Division, Bureau of Education and Cultural Affairs/International Information Programs, as well as the Office of the Department’s Special Advisor for International Disability Rights in the Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights & Labor.
More than 150 college students and experienced professionals with disabilities are registered to attend. Hiring managers and human resources personnel from over twenty State Department bureaus and offices are expected to be represented at the job fair.
Earlier in the day, attendees will also participate in panel discussions on the disability prospective in federal employment and hear keynote remarks from Special Advisor for Disability Rights Judith Heumann.
The event will be held from 12:45 p.m.-3:00 p.m. in the George C. Marshall Conference Center Auditorium. The event will provide participants with opportunities to network with Department personnel and educate applicants and employees with disabilities on the resources available for them at the Department.
