Assemblymember V. Manuel Pérez tours El Centro Detention Center and deliver supplies for detained families

El Centro, California - This afternoon, State Assemblymember V. Manuel Pérez visited the El Centro Immigration Processing Center for a private tour to better understand the situation facing the undocumented Central American families being held at the facility.

The care packages given to the detainees are the result of an effort spearheaded by the City of Coachella Vice Mayor Steven Hernández and Assemblyman Pérez, together with local organizations.  Basic necessities, such as water, blankets, diapers, toiletries, and other supplies have been donated by Coachella Valley residents to be shared with the undocumented immigrants held at the El Centro processing center.  A Coachella based nonprofit, Raices Cultura, has also been collecting funds to assist families with contacting relatives and covering transportation costs.  All of the donated supplies will be distributed by Neighborhood House in Calexico, a nonprofit organization providing humanitarian relief to the families.
