Imperial, California - Today is the deadline for all farm unit fallowing program documents. The rate for this program is currently set at $175 per-acre foot with 80 percent of the proceeds going to the landowners in the farm unit and 20 percent to tenant farmers.
Fields selected to participate in the program will be paid to lie fallow from July 1, 2014 through June 30, 2015, during which time no water can be delivered to the contracted field.
"As of today, farm unit managers have offered more than 160,000 acre-feet of the 181,000 targeted amount for the program," said David Bradshaw, assistant water manager in charge of the program. "All eligible fields will be accepted once the verification process is complete."
IID will be mailing letters to all participants confirming program acceptance on or shortly after May 28. For more information or to download any of the program forms, visit www.iid.com/farmunitfallowing or call the fallowing hotline at 760-339-9898
