Calexico CBP Officers Seize $642,000 Worth of Cocaine

Calexico, California - U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at the Calexico Downtown port of entry Thursday arrested a woman after discovering approximately $642,000 worth of cocaine concealed in the vehicle she was driving.

The incident occurred at about 5:30 p.m. on April 3, when CBP officers referred the driver of a 2004 Hyundai Santa Fe SUV to a secure area for a more in-depth examination.

Officers ran the vehicle through the port’s imaging system and detected anomalies inside the front and rear quarter panels.  A CBP detector dog alerted to the vehicle, leading officers to the discovery of 20 wrapped packages concealed inside the quarter panels.

The packages, weighing almost 50 pounds, were removed from the vehicle and field-tested positive as cocaine.

The driver, a 32-year-old U.S. citizen, and resident of Bakersfield, Calif., was arrested and turned over to the custody of Homeland Security Investigations agents.

CBP seized the vehicle and narcotics.
