Calexico CBP Officers Discovered Methamphetamine Worth $143,000 Concealed in a Vehicle

Calexico, California - Customs and Border Protection officers working at the Calexico downtown port of entry Thursday discovered $143,000 worth of methamphetamine concealed in a vehicle.

The incident occurred shortly after 11:45 a.m. on March 13, when a CBP officer referred a 39-year-old female U.S. citizen for further inspection after she arrived at the Calexico port of entry driving a 2005 Ford Taurus.

A CBP canine team screened the vehicle and the detector dog alerted to the undercarriage. Further search of the area led officers to discover 17 wrapped packages of methamphetamine concealed in two specially built compartments located in the gas tank and the wheel well area of the vehicle.

Officers removed a total weight of about 22 pounds.

The driver, a resident of Kerman, Calif., was arrested and turned over to the custody of Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) agents for further processing.
