Imperial County, California - This morning at about 9:24 AM, the Imperial County Sheriff’s Office North County Patrol division received a report of a suspicious male, possibly under the influence, with no clothing, multiple tattoos, running around the pool area of 10590 Hot Mineral Spa.
Deputies responded to the area and observed a black van being driven by a male subject matching the description provided by the reporting party. A traffic stop was initiated. The driver failed to yield, and a pursuit ensued. The driver continued to drive southbound on Hwy 111 at speeds of 40-45 mph. The United States Border Patrol assisted ICSO by placing spike strips on Hwy 111 near the USBP Checkpoint and all four tires of the vehicle were punctured.
The driver stopped just east of the USBP checkpoint, and high risk traffic stop procedures were employed. The driver, wearing only a shirt and shoes, was taken into custody by Imperial County Sheriff’s Office Deputies with no further incident. Niland Fire paramedic personnel were summoned to the scene to analyze any potential medical issues. The driver made spontaneous statements of methamphetamine use and 15.5 grams of methamphetamine and drug smoking devices (pipes) were located inside the van during an inventory search prior to the vehicle being towed.
