CBP Officers Discover $435,000 Worth of Methamphetamine In Rocker Panels

Calexico, California - U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers working at the Calexico downtown port of entry Thursday discovered approximately $435,000 worth of methamphetamine concealed inside a vehicle.

The incident occurred at about 1:45p.m.on Dec. 26, when a CBP officer conducting inspections of travelers and vehicles encountered a 32-year-old male U.S. citizen driving a 2007 Honda Civic. The officer referred both the vehicle and driver for a more in-depth examination.

During the intensive examination, officers utilized a detector dog who alerted to the undercarriage of the vehicle. Further search led officers to the discovery of 12 wrapped packages of methamphetamine concealed inside the vehicle’s rocker panels. The narcotics weighed approximately 29 pounds.

The driver, a resident of El Centro, California, was arrested and turned over to the custody of Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) agents for further processing.

The subject was later transported to the Imperial County Jail to await arraignment.

CBP seized the vehicle and narcotics.
