Bi-National Economic Development Hearing to be held in Calexico

Calexico, California - Assemblymember V. Manuel Pérez, chair of the Assembly Committee on Jobs, Economic Development, and the Economy, together with Assemblymember Ben Hueso, chair of the Assembly Select Committee on California/Mexico Bi-National Affairs, will hold a state oversight hearing later this month in Calexico on the topic of bi-national trade. 

Entitled “Border Infrastructure and Economic Development Opportunities in the Surrounding Region,” the hearing will occur on Wednesday, November 28, 2012, from 1:00 p.m. to 4 p.m. in the Council Chambers of Calexico City Hall.

The border region faces a number of challenges and opportunities for obtaining greater prosperity in the coming decade.  Presentations during this hearing will include an overview of the bi-national regional economy, placing a special focus on the Calexico Port of Entry and how improvements to border infrastructure can facilitate regional economic development.  Speakers will include economic development professionals, export and trade specialists, regional government representatives, and elected officials from both sides of the border, among others.
