El Centro Sector Border Patrol Halts Smuggling Attempt, Arrests 7

Calexico, California - U.S. Border Patrol agents yesterday stopped a vehicle used to smuggle five people and arrested two suspected alien smugglers.

The incident occurred at around 1:50 p.m., when agents witnessed six people load into a green Dodge Ram pick-up truck near the international border, approximately 12 miles east of Calexico. An agent followed behind the vehicle and engaged his emergency lights in an attempt to pull the vehicle over, but the driver attempted to flee.

Agents near the area successfully deployed a controlled tire deflation device and safely brought the vehicle to a stop. At that time, six of the seven Mexican nationals apprehended were determined to be illegally present in the U.S. The driver, a 55-year-old male lawfully admitted permanent resident and one undocumented illegal alien were arrested and charged with alien smuggling.

The suspects and the illegal aliens are in Border Patrol custody pending further investigation. U.S. Border Patrol seized the vehicle involved in the incident.
