El Centro, California - Monday, the Imperial County Board of Supervisors held its regular meeting.  Following are highlights of the meeting:

• The Board presented Certificates of Recognition to members of the Vincent Memorial Catholic High School Mock Trial Team in honor of their consecutive, two-year victory at the Imperial County Mock Trial Competition.
• The Board voted unanimously to approve that the County Librarian, Mrs. Crystal Duran, apply for a California State Library’s Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA) competitive grant in order to implement an innovative, regional program in collaboration with the other four local library jurisdictions.  The project, titled “Libraries on the Spectrum,” will provide services for families with children on the autism spectrum by undergoing staff development, implementing environmental changes, and providing targeted services and programming countywide.  The program will provide access to resources that might not otherwise be attainable to some families.  This project is the first that all five local libraries have undertaken collectively.
• The Board approved to send a letter to Senator Richard Pan, the Chair of the Senate Budget Subcommittee No. 3, to express its support of a budget augmentation request of $68 million additional ongoing State funding to the Department of Health Care Services to augment county spending for Public Administrator, Public Guardian, and Public Conservator (PA/PG/PC) programs.  PA/PG/PC programs serve California’s most vulnerable dependent adults and decedent estates by acting as the legal guardian or conservator of older and dependent adult Californians who are no longer able to act in their own best interest, resist undue influence, or are gravely disabled as a result of a psychiatric or cognitive disorder.  To meet the growing needs of California’s impaired adult population, State investment in county PA/PG/PC services is essential.
