Imperial, California - On Monday, at approximately 7:23 pm, an Imperial County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Sheriff conducted a traffic stop near Hwy 98 for a minor traffic violation. While speaking to the driver the deputy became suspicious and determined a further inspection of the vehicle was warranted and requested a deputy with a canine. A search of the vehicle resulted with the canine alerting to the rear bumper area.

The bumper was checked and several packages of a white powdery substance were located with an approximate weight of 20 lbs. A field test of the substance tested positive for methamphetamine.

The driver, identified as Miguel Franco Barraza was arrested and booked into the Imperial County Jail for Transportation and Sales of a Controlled Substance. The case will be submitted to the Imperial County District Attorney’s Office for further review and prosecution.
