Sacramento, California - Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr. today announced the following appointments:

Kristen Kane, 32, of Sacramento, has been appointed deputy director of the California Competes Tax Credit Program at the Governor’s Office of Business and Economic Development (GO-Biz). Kane has served as tax counsel at the California Franchise Tax Board since 2010, where she was a graduate legal assistant in 2008. She was an intern at the California State Board of Equalization Tax Appeals Assistance Program in 2010 and an attorney at the Legal Aid Society of San Diego from 2009 to 2010. Kane earned a Juris Doctor degree from the University of San Diego School of Law. This position does not require Senate confirmation and the compensation is $112,620. Kane is a Democrat.

Shakoora Azimi-Gaylon, 54, of Gold River, has been appointed assistant chief in the Bureau of Medical Marijuana Regulation at the California Department of Consumer Affairs. Azimi-Gaylon has been deputy executive officer at the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta Conservancy since 2012. She served as assistant deputy director in the Office of Information Management and Analysis at the State Water Resources Control Board from 2011 to 2012, where she was chief of the Water Quality Assessment Unit from 2005 to 2011. Azimi-Gaylon was an environmental scientist at the Central Valley Regional Water Quality Control Board from 2000 to 2005, project manager at Radian International LLC from 1997 to 2000 and vice president of laboratories at McLaren Environmental Engineering from 1987 to 1997. She is state co-chair of the California Water Quality Monitoring Council. Azimi-Gaylon earned a Master of Science degree in environmental science from California State University, Sacramento. This position does not require Senate confirmation and the compensation is $149,148. Azimi-Gaylon is a Democrat.

Tamara Colson, 44, of Sacramento, has been appointed assistant chief counsel in the Bureau of Medical Marijuana Regulation at the California Department of Consumer Affairs. Colson has been assistant general counsel at the California Department of Consumer Affairs since 2014. She was chief prosecuting counsel at the California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control from 2011 to 2014, special assistant inspector general in the California Office of the Inspector General from 2006 to 2011, and administrative law judge at the California Office of Administrative Hearings from 2005 to 2006. Colson served as a deputy attorney general at the California Department of Justice, Office of the Attorney General from 1999 to 2005 and was an associate attorney at Kronick, Moskovitz, Tiedemann and Girard from 1997 to 1999. This position does not require Senate confirmation and the compensation is $153,204. Colson is a Republican.

William Glenn McGinnis, 69, of Chico, has been reappointed to the California Educational Facilities Authority, where he has served since 2012. McGinnis has been a technical consultant and member of the Hearing Panel for the Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges since 2011, a consultant for the Community College League of California since 2004 and a member of the Butte-Glenn Community College District Board of Trustees since 1992. McGinnis was an administrator at California State University, Chico from 1985 to 2003, a city administrator for the City of Marysville from 1984 to 1985, a city manager for Crescent City from 1979 to 1984, a county administrative officer for Curry County, OR from 1978 to 1979 and personnel director for the City of Chico from 1975 to 1978. He is a member of the Campaign for College Opportunity and the California Community Colleges Institutional Effectiveness Partnership Initiative Advisory Committee. McGinnis earned a Master of Public Administration degree from the University of West Florida. This position does not require Senate confirmation and there is no compensation. McGinnis is a Democrat.
