Calexico, California - Aedes aegypti mosquitos have been detected in the City of Calexico with a concentration in the Southwest section of the City.

Public Health Vector Control staff will be sharing information with Calexico residents regarding mosquito surveillance and monitoring efforts in Calexico as well as mosquito breeding prevention measures.

What is Aedes aegypti? Aedes aegypti are small, black-and-white striped mosquitoes that are not native to California. They were recently detected for the first time in Imperial County through the Public Health Department’s active surveillance program. Aedes aegypti mosquitoes are the main carriers of exotic mosquito-borne viruses such as dengue, chikungunya and yellow fever and spread diseases by biting humans.

Who should attend? Residents from the southwest neighborhoods of Calexico and other interested individuals.
