Sacramento, California - This afternoon, newly sworn-in California Assembly Speaker Toni Atkins appointed Assemblyman V. Manuel Pérez to the position of Majority Floor Leader.
“I’m honored to accept this role and deeply appreciate Speaker Atkins’ confidence in me,” said Pérez. “It’s been a privilege to do the people’s work these years in the Assembly, and it’s humbling that the Speaker has placed her trust in me to serve in this capacity for the final months of my tenure. I’m pleased to bring my skills to bear to ensure the smooth functioning of our work on the Assembly Floor.”
The Majority Floor Leader facilitates and oversees Assembly Floor proceedings using parliamentary procedure and maintains harmony among the membership. With this appointment, Pérez is the highest ranking Latino elected official in the state of California.
Pérez takes over the position previously held by Atkins. He has since March 2013 served as the Assistant Majority Floor Leader.
