Governor Brown Announces Appointments

Sacramento, California - Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr. today announced the following appointments.

Matt Navo, 43, of Sanger, has been appointed to the California Advisory Commission on Special Education. Navo has been superintendent for the Sanger Unified School District since 2013, where he has served in multiple positions since 2000, including area administrator and director of pupil services. Navo was an adjunct faculty member at Fresno State University from 2010 to 2013 and learning director at Clark Intermediate School from 1999 to 2000. He served in various positions for the Clovis Unified School District from 1993 to 1996, including RSP teacher and counselor at Buchanan High School and special education teacher at Tarpey Elementary School. Navo earned a Masters of Arts degree in Special Education from California State University, Fresno. This position does not require Senate confirmation and there is no compensation. Navo is a Republican.

Louis Steven Winlock, 59, of Sacramento, has been appointed to the California Advisory Commission on Special Education. Winlock has been executive director of the Sacramento County Office of Education Leadership Institute since 2009. He was an associate superintendent of the Elk Grove Unified School District from 1991 to 2009. Winlock earned a Doctor of Education degree in Educational Leadership and Curriculum from the University of Southern California and a Master of Education degree in Education Administration from California State University, Sacramento. This position does not require Senate confirmation and there is no compensation. Winlock is a Democrat.

Corey Lichtman, 37, of San Diego, has been appointed to the California Board of Chiropractic Examiners. Lichtman has been team chiropractor and medical coordinator for the San Diego Sockers since 2009 and owner and president of Lichtman Chiropractic Inc. since 2006. He was associate chiropractor at Reiley Chiropractic Inc. from 2003 to 2005. Lichtman earned a Doctor of Chiropractic degree from the Southern California University of Health Sciences. This position does not require Senate confirmation and the compensation is $100 per diem. Lichtman is registered without party preference.

Kaci Patterson, 35, of North Hills, has been appointed to the California Alarm Company Operator Disciplinary Review Committee. Patterson has been vice president of programs and administration at Families in Schools since 2011, where she was director of community engagement and advocacy from 2010 to 2011. She was assistant director at the Center for Civic Education from 2003 to 2010. Patterson earned a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of La Verne. This position does not require Senate confirmation and the compensation is $100 per diem. Patterson is registered without party preference.
