San Jose, California - Mineta San Jose International Airport and U.S. Customs and Border Protection announced Friday that two Global Entry kiosks are now in operation for travelers arriving from international destinations.
Global Entry allows expedited CBP clearance for pre-approved, low-risk travelers upon arrival in the United States. Global Entry members flying into San Jose can now take advantage of this program.
“The addition of Global Entry kiosks at San Jose International Airport will allow travelers with existing Global Entry membership to immediately take advantage of expedited processing and reduced wait times,” said Brian J. Humphrey, CBP Director of Field Operations in San Francisco.
"I commend U.S. Customs and Border Protection leadership for bringing two Global Entry kiosks to Silicon Valley travelers," said San Jose Mayor Chuck Reed. "It's fitting that technology solutions that are being developed right here in Silicon Valley are now being offered to our air travelers to make their international journey more efficient and comfortable."
"Our International Arrivals facility serves up to 600 international arriving passengers a day on All Nippon Airways from Tokyo, Alaska Airlines from Cabo San Lucas and Guadalajara and Volaris from Guadalajara," said Director of Aviation Kim Becker Aguirre. "As SJC's international passenger activity continues to grow, Global Entry is one solution to expediting travelers and enhancing their experience as they end their journey in San José."
As an added benefit, Global Entry members are also eligible to participate in the TSAPre✓™ expedited screening program which is available at Mineta San Jose International Airport. Additional information is available on the Global Entry section of the CBP website.
While the goal of Global Entry is to speed travelers through the process, members may be selected for further examination when entering the United States. Any violation of the program's terms and conditions will result in appropriate enforcement action and revocation of the traveler's membership privileges.
Global Entry is a quick and easy way for trusted travelers to expedite their entry into the U.S. Announced as a pilot program in 2008, Global Entry was established as a permanent voluntary program in 2012 and is now operational at 42 U.S. airports and 11 preclearance locations.
U.S. citizens, U.S. nationals or U.S. Lawful Permanent Residents may apply for this trusted traveler program as well as citizens of certain countries with which CBP has reciprocal agreements, including Mexico, the Netherlands and the Republic of Korea. Canadian citizens and residents enrolled in NEXUS may also use Global Entry. Persons under the age of 18 who meet the general eligibility criteria and have the consent of a parent or legal guardian are eligible to participate in Global Entry as well.
Applications must be completed and submitted online through the Global Online Enrollment System (GOES) available through the CBP website. A non-refundable $100 per person application fee is payable on-line at the time of the application and is good for five years.
Application information will be reviewed by CBP and an initial background check will be conducted to make sure eligibility requirements are met to become a member of Global Entry. Participants are still subject to inspections at any time in the CBP process.
