Sacramento, California - CDFA opened a new Border Inspection Station this morning on I-15 at Mountain Pass, about four miles south of the California-Nevada border and 40 miles south of Las Vegas. This station replaces the one at Yermo, approximately 100 miles southwest of the new location.

Los Angeles, California - California Attorney General Xavier Becerra filed new grand theft charges against brothers Edgardo and Hector Guerrero, who operated “Oficina Guerrero” in Inglewood. According to the complaint, the Guerrero brothers defrauded undocumented immigrants and their families seeking lawful permanent residence in the United States. They charged thousands of dollars for legal services that they were not legally qualified to dispense and failed to maintain a required bond. Edgardo’s wife, Sidia Landaverde, was also charged today for her role in the scheme.

Sacramento, California - California Attorney General Xavier Becerra today joined a bipartisan group of Attorneys General supporting the Stopping Overdoses of Fentanyl Analogues (SOFA) Act in Congress. The legislation closes a harmful loophole in federal law allowing the legal distribution of fentanyl analogues. Fentanyl analogues are designed to mimic the effect of fentanyl, a synthetic opioid used most often to treat late-stage cancer patients. However, unlike fentanyl, these analogues contain untested chemicals that have contributed to an alarming number of overdoses and have no medical value.

Chico, California - The Agribusiness Institute (ABI) at California State University, Chico has released a report detailing agriculture’s contributions to the regional economy of Northeastern California. The report based on 2016 data shows that despite a continued decrease in commodity prices from a high in 2014, agriculture continues to be a driving force in job creation and economic activity within the region.
