Sacramento, California - Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr. today announced the following appointments:

Daniel Curtin, 69, of Carmichael, has been reappointed to the California Water Commission, where he has served since 2010. Curtin has been director of the California Conference of Carpenters since 2001, where he was director from 1992 to 1999 and legislative advocate from 1987 to 1992. He served as chief deputy director at the California Department of Industrial Relations from 1999 to 2001. This position requires Senate confirmation and the compensation is $100 per diem. Curtin is a Democrat.

Brian Cooley, 68, of Alameda, has been appointed to the California Boating and Waterways Commission. Cooley was chief probation officer at the Merced County Probation Department from 2005 to 2010 and was director at Fouts Springs Youth Facility from 1985 to 2005. He is a member of the California Probation, Parole and Correctional Association and a member and past commodore of the Oakland Yacht Club. Cooley earned a Master of Science degree in sociology from Southern Oregon University. This position requires Senate confirmation and the compensation is $100 per diem. Cooley is a Democrat.

Katherine Pettibone, 45, of West Sacramento, has been reappointed to the California Boating and Waterways Commission, where she has served since 2014. Pettibone has been vice president of western affairs at the American Insurance Association since 2015. She was legislative director at the Civil Justice Association of California from 2010 to 2015, senior analyst at the Governor’s Office of Planning and Research from 2008 to 2010 and an attorney in private practice in 2007. Pettibone was assistant rules advisor and sailing team member at the 32nd America’s Cup from 2006 to 2007. She was a sailing team member and technical coordinator on Team Amer Sports at the Volvo Ocean Race from 2001 to 2002 and a sailing team member with the America True, San Francisco Yacht Club at the 30th America's Cup from 1998 to 2000. Pettibone was a sailing team member and sail coordinator with Team EF Whitbread Round the World Race Team from 1996 to 1998. She was a sailing team member with America 3 Foundation All-Women's Team at the 29th America's Cup from 1994 to 1995. She is a member of the U.S. Sailing Association and co-founder of the Rising Tide Leadership Institute. Pettibone earned a Juris Doctor degree from the University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law. This position requires Senate confirmation and the compensation is $100 per diem. Pettibone is registered without party preference.

Ernest Cabral, 55, of Sebastopol, has been reappointed to the California Off-Highway Motor Vehicle Recreation Commission, where he has served since 2013. Cabral has been a consultant at Cycle West Honda Suzuki since 2012, where he was general manager from 1994 to 2009. He was a self-employed certified natural chef from 2013 to 2017 and an insurance agent at Ted Cabral Insurance Services from 2009 to 2010. Cabral is a member of the American Motorcyclist Association and chairman of the Sonoma County Flood Control Advisory Committee Petaluma Basin Zone 2A and the Marin County Motorcycle Association. This position requires Senate confirmation and the compensation is $100 per diem. Cabral is a Democrat.

Sarah Miggins, 45, of Morro Bay, has been appointed to the California Off-Highway Motor Vehicle Recreation Commission. Miggins has been California state director at the American Conservation Experience since 2016. She was center director at Audubon California from 2015 to 2016, executive director at the Southern California Mountains Foundation from 2005 to 2015, program director at the Los Angeles Conservation Corps from 2001 to 2005 and director of business development at Inland Empire Economic Partnership from 1998 to 2001. Miggins earned a Master of Arts degree in management from the University of Redlands. This position requires Senate confirmation and the compensation is $100 per diem. Miggins is a Democrat.

Patricia Ureña, 59, of Calexico, has been appointed to the California Off-Highway Motor Vehicle Recreation Commission. Ureña has been recreation supervisor at the City of El Centro Community Services Department since 1982. She is the area director for Imperial Valley, Special Olympics Southern California and a member of the El Centro Optimist Club Board, El Centro ELKS Lodge 1325 and the El Centro Kiwanis Club. This position requires Senate confirmation and the compensation is $100 per diem. Ureña is a Democrat.
