New Year's Message for 2014

Washington, DC - Every new year brings an opportunity for reflection on the past and the future. 2014 is a milestone for the Federal Trade Commission as it marks 100 years since President Woodrow Wilson signed the FTC Act into law. We will be commemorating our centennial throughout the year by reflecting on our history of fostering honest business practices and robust competition in the marketplace.

The hallmark of our work has been to adapt established tools – law enforcement, advocacy, research and education – to address economic challenges and technological advances that the FTC of 1914 could never have imagined.

We enter our second century mindful that our mission puts consumers first. We will continue to fight vigorously against fraudulent, deceptive and unfair practices, promote competition, and use creative and practical strategies to educate consumers and businesses about their respective rights and responsibilities.

I am honored to celebrate the FTC’s centennial and am confident that the agency’s best days lie ahead.
